A crazy week in Dubai

This week we all got to enjoy an unscheduled Public holiday on Monday.  The holiday was announced late Sunday afternoon after roads started mysteriously getting closed  Why?  Because George W. Bush was in town and the city was literally shutdown.  

All of the main roads were closed from 6am until 5pm making it impossible for anyone to get to work or anywhere else for that matter.  These pictures are of Sheikh Zayed Road.  It is the main road in Dubai and we use it pretty much to get to most of the places we need to go.  This is what it looked like on Monday.  Very strange for us to see as it is always loaded with cars and quite often with bumper to bumper traffic.

Just to further our confusion for the week, we then had very rainy weather beginning Monday night.  On Tuesday we awoke to flooded streets and water everywhere.  All day Tuesday it just rained and rained and rained.

This is another one of the main roads in Dubai - Emirates Road.  It was literally impassable and people had abandoned their cars and trucks!  Strange for a place where it hardly ever rains.
